Corhampton's Neil Raymond was unable to complete an unprecedented hat-trick of Brabazon Trophy titles, finishing in a tie for 13th at Formby.
The 27-year-old was chasing a third successive win in the English Men's Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship.
Despite a solid week, he was unable to threaten at the very top of the leaderboard, posting scores of 74, 74, 73 and 74 to finish on seven-over-par.
While Raymond will have been disappointed not to win, he can reflect on an excellent month, having won the St Andrews Links Trophy and reached the quarter-finals of the British Amateur Championship as well.
Meon Valley's Harry Ellis, the reigning English Amateur champion, finished in a tie for 33rd, on 13-over.
