Neil Raymond has been named in the England side for this year’s European Men’s Team Championships.
The Corhampton player, pictured below, is part of a strong six-man squad that will compete for the prestigious title in Denmark next week.
England will be hoping to erase the memories of last year’s disappointment, when they finished way down in 15th place.
That actually cost them an automatic spot in this month’s tournament, although they were able to qualify through the European Challenge Trophy, in Iceland.
England needed a top-three finish there last year, and ended up winning the event comfortably.
Raymond will be relied upon to be one of the team’s top performers at Silkeborg Ry Golf Club, in Jutland, as they look to win the event that they claimed in 2011.
The 27-year-old has been in fine fettle over the past few weeks, winning the St Andrews Links Trophy, reaching the quarter-finals of the British Amateur Championship and finishing in a tie for 13th at the Brabazon Trophy.
Raymond is joined in the team by the winner of the British Amateur, Garrick Porteous (Northumberland), as well as Nathan Kimsey (Lincolnshire), Max Orrin (Kent), Callum Shinkwin (Hertfordshire), and Toby Tree (Sussex).
The first two days of the European Championships are devoted to stroke play qualifying, before the match play knockout over the final three days.
In the European Boys’ Team Championships, Meon Valley teenage ace Harry Ellis is part of the six-strong England team that will be competing at Murcar Links, in Scotland, next week.
The 17-year-old is joined by his Hampshire colleague, Brokenhurst Manor’s Jack Singh-Brar. Both will be hoping to help England win the competition for the first time since 2004.
Both the boys’ and the men’s events run from July 9 to 13.
