Hampshire teenage golf star Jack Singh-Brar will be mixing it with some of the world’s best players when he competes in his first ever European Tour event later this month.

The 16-year-old Brokenhurst Manor ace has been given an invite to the Russian Open as reward for winning the Faldo Series Grand Final last season.

The tournament, which begins on July 25, will be the European Tour’s first event following this year’s Open Championship and will feature some of the best professionals in the game.

“I don’t normally get nervous, but this will be the biggest tournament I’ve played in,” said Singh-Brar, who lives in Wellow. “But after the first tee shot I will probably be fine.”

The England international added: “I’m trying to treat it as a normal competition, so I don’t get too hyped up.

“I’m just going to try and do what I normally do, warm up how I normally warm up, do my normal practice rounds, and just don’t try to overdo anything.

“I’m obviously excited, but I’ve got to try to keep that inside.”

Singh-Brar is due to fly out on the Saturday before the tournament starts, so he can prepare properly for the challenge that awaits him at the Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club, in the Moscow region.

He is hoping he can perform well enough to make the cut and play in all four days of the competition.

“The most important thing is to make the cut,” he said. “If I can do that, it will be a big achievement.”

Whatever the case, though, the tournament should provide Singh-Brar with some invaluable experience, while also possibly providing him with a small glimpse into his future.

“It will hopefully give me an advantage over others (in his age group), because they won’t have had a Tour event at this age,” he said.

“It will give me a lot of experience and hopefully also a chance to compare my game to the pros. So it should show me what I need to improve.”

Before the Russian Open, Singh-Brar will compete for England next week in the European Boys’ Team Championships, at Murcar Links, in Scotland.
