Stoneham’s Richard Bland underwent a scan on his right knee yesterday to ensure the discomfort he is experiencing in it is nothing serious.

Bland, who has been bothered by the joint for the last few months, has already missed a chunk of the season with a back problem and is taking the precaution to make certain he does not miss any more time.

“I’ve been struggling with my right knee for a couple of months now,” he said. “It hasn’t affected my play or anything like that, it’s just uncomfortable at the end of each round.

“I just wanted to get it checked out and make sure it’s nothing serious.”

Bland, who expects to find out the results in the next few days, is next in action at the end of the month, in the Russian Open, before a three-week break in his European Tour schedule.

The 40-year-old is in a strong position in the season standings after a good week at the Scottish Open.

Bland finished in a tie for 31st at Castle Stuart Links, banking just over €27,000 and taking his winnings for the season to €199,368.

He is now 93rd in the order of merit, with a comfortable cushion of about €45,000 between him and those below the 110th-place cut line.

“It’s a big step forward to just making sure first of all that my card is certain for next year,” he said. “I probably need maybe another 15,000 or 20,000 to be safe. It might not even be that.

“But you’ve just got to try to accumulate as much as you can."
