Three Hampshire players have made it into the match play stages of the English Amateur Championship.
Martin Young (-3), Billy McKenzie (-3) and Ben Wall (-1) all navigated through the 36 holes of stroke play qualifying at Frilford Heath to reach the knockout rounds.
Brokenhurst Manor’s Young will face Staffordshire’s Ryan Cornfield in the last 64 tomorrow, while Rowlands Castle’s McKenzie plays Lincolnshire’s Nick Watson.
Hayling’s Wall has a daunting challenge ahead of him, as he takes on Yorkshire’s Matthew Fitzpatrick, who won the silver medal for the top amateur at this year’s Open Championship.
There was a surprise early exit for Corhampton’s Neil Raymond (+3), one of many players unfortunate to be sent out in horrible conditions this morning.
Defending champion Harry Ellis (+9), of Meon Valley, also bowed out, as did Stoneham’s Elliot Groves (+1), Hayling’s Jamie Mist (+3), Brokenhurst’s Jordan Ainley (+1), Sherfield Oaks’ Jack Owen (+7), Corhampton’s Scott Gregory (+7) and Meon Valley’s Remi Cake (+11).
