Neil Raymond’s US Amateur adventure has come to an end, after suffering defeat in the quarter-finals of the competition.

The Corhampton player lost 5&3 to Canada’s Corey Conners in the last eight at Brookline, Massachusetts.

Raymond was undone by a string of five consecutive lost holes, from the ninth through to the 13th, which effectively put the match out of reach.

The 27-year-old had started well, winning the first, although Conners struck back to level immediately.

Raymond edged back in front again with a birdie at the fourth, but bogeyed seven to send the contest back to all square, before his opponent pulled clear.

Hampshire ace Raymond can reflect on an excellent week, however, having topped the leaderboard in the stroke play qualifier before going deep into the knockout rounds.

His performance has further boosted his already incredibly strong chances of making it into the Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup squad, which is due to be announced on Monday.

The team will head to New York next month where they will look to defend the trophy they won two years ago against the United States.
