HAMPSHIRE’S golfers recorded a narrow victory over the Channel Islands in their annual match at Royal Jersey Golf Club at the weekend.
Corhampton’s Scott Gregory was the Hampshire hero, winning the last two holes to halve his singles match and give his team a 6.5-5.5 victory.
Hampshire had lead 3.5 to 0.5 after Saturday’s foursomes but the Channel Islands team fought back on Sunday to win the singles matches by 5 to 3.
New county captain Steve Williams (Stoneham) was delighted with his team’s victory. “It sets the team up for the first League Match against Dorset at Weymouth Golf Club on Sunday 11th May,” he said.
The Hampshire team play the Hampshire PGA on Sunday at Liphook in their final warm-up match.
