Southampton Golf Club’s Luke Russell is hoping to wrap up the inaugural Hampshire order of merit title this week.
Russell (pictured) leads the way in the standings, ahead of the final two qualifying events of the season.
The first of those is tomorrow’s Blackmoor Scratch Open, followed by the Courage & Mid-Amateur on Sunday.
Russell has enjoyed a fine season, winning both the Southampton and Portsmouth Opens.
He also performed strongly in the County Championships and the Hampshire Open.
Russell is being closely chased by Scott Gregory and Ben Wall in the standings, although with neither of those playing at Blackmoor, the 23-year-old can strengthen his position ahead of Sunday.
The Courage will see Brokenhurst star Martin Young chasing a hat-trick of victories, having won the title by a shot from Stoneham’s Ryan Henley last year and having beaten Hayling’s Darren Walkley in a play-off in 2012. Young is out in a strong group that also features Corhampton’s Gregory and Hayling’s Wall.
Russell is playing with North Hants’ Adam Copeland and Sandford Springs’ Christopher Blunden.
