Ali Cheyne's precise penalty kicking fired King Edward VI into the last 32 of the nationwide English Schools RFU Daily Mail Cup for the first time, writes Mike VimPAny.
The lanky winger improved two tries and potted two penalties as the Southampton school beat Farnborough Sixth Form College 20-5 at Stoneham Lane.
The victory sets up a juicy home south-east region semi-final showdown with St Benedict's, the powerful Middlesex unit, who crushed Latymer School 52-5 in their fourth-round tie.
The schools meet at the Wellington Sports Ground, Stoneham Lane, on Wednesday, 2pm.
An early try by Nick Ball, set up by Joe Lane's powerful run, and converted by Cheyne gave KES a perfect start.
But the game developed into a scrappy, mistake-ridden affair, with Farnborough fluffing two good penalty attempts before breaching the KES line.
Cheyne, pictured left, showed how it should be done with two clean penalty strikes either side of half-time to give KES a flattering 13-5 lead - Farnborough having pinned the hosts in their own half for long periods after the break.
Skipper Rob Saltrick clinched the KES win with a converted late try in the left-hand corner.
