King Edward VI's Daily Mail Under-18 English Schools Cup adventures are over, writes MIKE VIMPANY.

They were beaten 26-0 in their south-east zone semi-final by hot competition favourites St Benedict's at Stoneham Lane.

But, minus four influential players, the Southampton school gave a good solid account of themselves against quality London opposition, who have racked up over 650 points from their 14 wins this season.

KES hit back after conceding two converted tries in the opening five minutes.

They encamped themselves deep in St Benedict's territory for long periods, but without reward.

But, just as the KES pack was making progress, a forward movement was intercepted and St Benedict's broke to score again.

The visitors' 21-0 interval lead was extended by an uncoverted try in the far corner after the break.

"Probably for the first time this season, St Benedict's found themselves in a contest and, mirrored against their impressive standards, we performed very well," said KES coach Lloyd Powell.
