It didn’t take Millbrook RFC long to put their new trophy shelf to good use.
Just a couple of weeks after having it installed at their Five Acres headquarters, it proudly displays the Gales HSB Hampshire Plate.
The silverware came courtesy of a 15-0 over Andover in the final – with captain Mike Randell and his fellow wing and brother Matt scoring all the points.
And the final whistle brought an end to another successful season for Millbrook, who won the Plate the season before last.
The side finished just outside the top three in Snows Group Hampshire 1 this term and have already set promotion as their target for next season.
“We were fourth in the league which was similar to the previous year and at the tail end of the season we won 11 from 13 competitive games,” said the skipper.
“In the last two games, the semi-final and final, we didn’t concede any points.”
Brook’s 15 points against Andover all came in the first half.
Mike Randell got the first via a crossfield kick from Rich Colmer, brother Matt finished off a move that was started by a kick over the top from Tom Colling and the captain went over in the corner for his second following a move that included Ratu Degei, Dan Wade and Rhys Fehners.
“Andover threw a lot at us in the second half, but we defended well,” added Mike Randell.
“We started the celebrations at Andover and they went on late back at our club.”
