Winchester moved into fifth spot in London 2 South-West with a well-worked 30-20 victory at KCS Old Boys.
Both sides opened with fast and furious passing but it was the visitors who were first on the scoreboard – captain and outside centre Jake Hiscock going over in the corner.
KCS answered with a penalty before prop Alex Lee touched down after ten or so phases of pick-and-go by the pack.
Back came KCS with a converted try before Winch piled on the pressure up to half-time – winger Adam Dye crossed in the corner, Rory Jones struck with a drop goal and Jim Beavan, pictured below, crashed over, his try converted by Morris from 40 metres.
Eight minutes into the second half Winchester scored again, fly-half Greg Sullivan’s long pass found second row Rob Rees for him to touch down in the corner. Morris missed the conversion but put three points on the board shortly after with a penalty.
KCS had the final say with a converted try but Winchester head coach Andy Fields was happy with most aspects of his side’s performance.
He said: “A 30-20 win and a bonus point is good. We’ve still got a lot of work to do on reducing the error count, but we’re injury-free and the squad’s spirit is excellent.”
