TROJANS’ attempt to lift themselves up the London 2 South-West table backfired last weekend when they were hit by two breakaway tries and a ‘juggling act’ score.
But coach Barry Bridgman insists that his team is playing well and are not far off the mark.
“Apart from those two breakaway tries – which shouldn’t happen – and the juggling act one, we played well,”
he said.
Trojans have now lost four of their opening six matches and Bridgman has labelled this weekend’s home clash with London Cornish as another that they really need to win.
“I know I keep saying this but it is another ‘must win’ game – we are in the wrong part of the table as far as I’m concerned.
“It is going to be tough against Cornish because they will have seen where we are in the table and that we have been beaten by sides we shouldn’t have lost to and they will be full of confidence.”
Centre Ben Strudwick will eventually get his debut on Saturday but Frazer Moncrieff is out after suffering concussion. Bill Smith and Ed Ravenhill are both unavailable so Ben Collins, Chris Boyd and Dan Richards are back in the first team squad.
Tottonians have been around the television screen this week to see how they let a healthy lead slip to lose for the first time this season.
Defeat at Gosport & Fareham last Saturday knocked Totts off the top of the table and coach Gavin Williams wants to get back to winning ways, starting at home to Effingham & Leatherhead.
“We have looked at the video and seen where we went wrong in terms of our performance,” said Williams.
“We just need to put what went wrong last week and we have to take the game to Effingham. There’s no rocket science about it, we just have to get back on course after being knocked off it. We are confident in our ability to put it right.”
Regular Totts hooker Miles Northover out for the rest of the season after dislocating his shoulder.
He is replaced by Wayne Gilroy and Barry Collins is recalled to the front row along with experienced Tom Pearson. Ali Ramus moves to no 8 and Pete Belasco comes in at second row while Paul Goodall replaces injured Bryn Marshall at scrum half.
