Loick Peyron has won the Route De Rhum in a new record time.
He arrived in Guadeloupe this morning having completed the transatlantic crossing from St Malo in seven days, 15 hours and eight minutes, shaving two hours off the previous best.
Hampshire sailing legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, who is currently sixth in his class, praised Peyron on the eve of the Frenchman’s record-breaking finish.
Sir Robin said: “He is one of these people who needs to, and deserves to not just win this race but to also set a record.”
