SAM Davies has said she is looking forward to what lies in wait for her in the Vendée Globe race.
Speaking to the Daily Echo from her yacht Roxy via satellite phone, the 34-year-old said she was “loving” the racing.
Now 16 days into the 24,000-mile race, at the last position update Davies was lying in 13th place.
She said: “I’m really enjoying racing at the moment. I’ve had no major dramas onboard Roxy and she is sailing herself along nicely.
“I’m very proud of my race so far - I don’t think I could really have done anything any better.
“It’s a balance between pushing the boat as hard as I can and sailing slightly more sensibly.
“I want to make sure I get to the finish line, but I don’t want to get there and regret not sailing Roxy harder.
“I had a great passage through the Doldrums and the light winds didn’t really affect me - I missed out on all the hard work.”

Davies has about a week to go before she hits the most feared part of the race – the Southern Ocean.
“I’m just not worried about what’s in store,” she said. “I have been to the Southern Ocean once before with a crew and we psyched ourselves out about what it was going to be like.
“At the end of the day I’m going to have to sail through it whether I like it or not, so I’m not letting it bother me.”
Meanwhile, solo sailing veteran Mike Golding climbed up the rankings from his weekend position of tenth to sixth.
At the time of going to press Golding was just 70 miles behind race leader Loick Peyron.
Lymington’s Brian Thompson was 230 miles behind Peyron in tenth.
