BRITISH singlehander Pete Goss finished inside the top third of boats in the Route du Rhum transatlantic race.
The veteran solo sailor completed the 3,000 nautical mile race from St Malo in France to Guadeloupe in the Caribbean in 20 days, four hours and 56 minutes, placing him 14th out of 44 boats in the Class 40 fleet.
Goss, one of only two Britons sailing in the predominantly French fleet, said: “It was always our aim to finish in the top third and as the first Brit home, which we have achieved. I didn’t get as many miles under the keel as I would like before we started, but the boat has been fantastic. We suffered no damage and I really felt at home on her.”
