The iShares Cup at Skandia Cowes Week is the penultimate event in the iShares Cup Extreme 40 Sailing Series; in addition to the three-day regatta from 3rd - 5th August, the Extreme 40's will put on several days of exhibition sailing from 7th-9th August off The Green by the Royal Yacht Squadron. "The Extreme 40's are an amazing class. but I am more used to one hull than two, so it is certainly going to be a challenge , said Shirley.
This will be the second event for the JPMorgan Asset Management Extreme 40, since taking line honours at the JPMorgan Asset Management Round the Island Race in June. British Am 1800. Friday 3rd August will see the eight boat fleet racing on a set course off The Green in Cowes, with a new course at Osbourne Bay or off Stone Point (weather dependent) for Saturday and Sunday's racing. Each day will see approximately five races lasting between 20 - 25 minutes and every boat will have a 5th man spot. A journalist or a guest of the team will take this spot, but regatta rules state that during racing the 5th man is a passenger only and not allowed to sail. The Extreme 40s will compete out of the iShares Cup Race Village in Shepherds Wharf, with a prize giving each day after racing.
