The May bank holiday saw the inaugural race in Southampton Water Sailing Association’s new evening series for sailing dinghies. Hosted by Southampton Sailing Club and starting off Weston shore, a total of 9 boats participated in a steady force 3 Westerly breeze.

Although the sole multihull entry, Luke Yeates in his recently acquired Eagle F20 catamaran Le Comptoir Immobilier drew lots of attention. Competently sailed and finishing three laps before the remaining boats could complete two, the boat also produced a very distinctive and eerie humming sound at speed.

In the monohulls, the husband and wife team of Ian and Kerry Morgan took 1st and 3rd in their Laser and Laser radial respectively. Another Laser sailed by Richard Horn split the Morgans to take 2nd place.

The SWSA dinghy evening series continues on Wednesday 20th May. It is open to members of the 16 SWSA member clubs and to individual members of the RYA.
