With Venetian, French and Italian crew on the water, the second race in the Southampton Water Sailing Association evening series for sailing yachts took on a Mediterranean flavour, with copious sunshine and sunglasses donned.

A South West breeze saw 12 boats representing 5 clubs come to the line. Starting well, Puma of Paglesham led class 1 for the first lap but in blustery conditions opted not to spinnaker. By the second round, the conditions had eased and Puma’s asymmetric kite pulled her to line honours finishing over a minute ahead of her nearest rival, Symphony.

In class 2, the quarter tonner Zipper enjoyed some close racing with the Evolution 22, Glass Onion. Although new to SWSA events, Glass Onion put in a creditable performance finishing under a minute behind Zipper on corrected time. Up from 3rd in the previous race, Zipper is showing improved performance taking 1st place in class 2.

The SWSA evening series for sailing yachts continues on Tuesday 2nd June. It is open to members of the 16 SWSA member clubs and to individual members of the RYA. For more information, please see www.swsa.org.uk.
