THORNDEN Tennis Club's James Ardley won the Under-14s Snow’s Group TTC Winter Junior Tournament - before reaching the Under-18s final the next day.
He beat Winchester’s Rory Penrose 4-0, 5-3 in the Snow's Group final, beating Thornden teammate Leo Gamon along the way (Milan Bharadia lost a tight first-round match before winning the Consolation).
Twenty-four hours later, Ardley was one of four Thornden TC boys in the U18s tournament.
He started strongly, dumping his higher-rated opponent 4-5, 4-2, 10-5.
Felix de Merode went down 0-4, 1-4 to the #1 seed, and Tom Flynn was beaten 0-4, 2-4.
Leon Chatterton, in his first tournament after injury, lost 0-4, 0-4 to the #2 seed - Swanmore’s Sam Hunt.
Ardley thumped Hunt 4-2, 4-2 in the semi-final, but finally lost 0-4, 1-4 to a much older boy from Sussex.
Thornden’s Magda Korniczjuk reached the final of the Under-14 Girls’ final.
She was finally beaten 3-5, 4-5 by Alana Unitt (David Lloyd).
Her Thornden teammates Jocelyn Kwan and Nakshatra Sridhar, who was playing competitively for the first time, played each other for sixth place, with the former’s experiencing ensuring a comfortable win.
Molly Walsh defeated Jasmine Williams 4-1, 4-0 in the U18 girls’ final.
Thornden Tennis Club is based at Thornden School. It offers quality tennis all year round, at competitive rates and is always looking for new members.
With its partner, Future Tennis, coaching is offered for everyone from Tiny Tots to the more mature players.
Cardio tennis and mix-ins (Adult and Junior) are also provided. Tennis Camps are run during school holidays.
