Southampton's Gabi Taylor was forced to retire through illness during her quarter-final against Kayla Day in the girls' singles at Wimbledon.
Taylor was the final home hope left in the junior tournament and had been impressive in her run to the last eight.
The 18-year-old revealed after her 6-1 6-1 third-round win over Rebeka Masarova that she had considered pulling out of the tournament after falling ill with food poisoning on Thursday morning.
But the effects proved more debilitating on Friday and, trailing 6-4 1-1 to the American fifth seed, she decided to call it a day.
It had been clear Taylor was not feeling well, with the Southampton player doubling over several times late in the first set.
The umpire tried her to persuade her to see a doctor before quitting but, after a brief conversation on the telephone, informed the Court 12 crowd that the match was over.
Taylor is ranked 419th in the senior standings - a career high - and is the British number nine.
