There are few who aren’t familiar with the classic works of Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Persuasion, the list goes on.
But what if you could marry at a venue where you could easily imagine Mr Darcy deep in thought sat by a blazing fire, or Elizabeth Bennett taking a turn around a colourful rose garden?
Chawton House is an Elizabethan manor house that belonged to Jane Austen’s brother, Edward, and a dwelling that the famous author knew well.
Today, couples can enjoy the splendour of a bygone era and hold their dream wedding at the famous estate.
The house is situated in the quinessentially English country village of Chawton near Winchester, with spectacular parkland where you will often see livestock and horses graze.
The house has a host of settings where you can exchange vows and hold your reception.
Whether you fancy a period banquet in the dramatic panelled Great Hall or a more intimate affair in the Oak Room with breathtaking views of the property’s drive, where Jane and her family are known to have spent many an hour, this location can cater for all desires.
Enjoy exclusive use of the house and grounds for wedding ceremonies with seated meals in the house for up to 60 people, or ceremony only from two to 70 people.
For larger weddings, marquees are allowed on the lawn and this can include a drinks reception in the house.
A tranquil setting with unique literary links make Chawton House the perfect location for your special day.
