I mentioned yesterday a Buy One Get One Free offer, otherwise known as a BOGOF. It reminded me that there was a move a few years ago to get us to adopt the German rules on this kind of offer.
Germany insists that shops use a phrase such as When You Buy Two, You Get Each One At Half Price. I guess this is in case some people are too stupid to realise that the second item isn't really 'free' because you're obliged to buy the first one. Either that or the German authorities are just very pedantic.
I'm glad the move didn't succeed because 'free', along with 'new', 'sex' and 'chocolate', are the four most attention grabbing words in the marketer's dictionary.
I've just thought what my next promotion should be: Free Chocolate with our New uniSex bags.
