MAY I say what memories the Daily Echo Heritage page for December 28 brought back for me.
As a young lad in the 1930s we would often walk from Merry Oak to see that Castle Lodge House.
It was quite an attraction for us young children.
The other memory I have was having our bread delivered form the Wood Mill Bakery.
Our favourite bread was the cottage loaf.
This loaf was a small round loaf on top of a much larger round loaf.
We children used to like the top loaf, as it was always over cooked, so it was very crusty and sometimes burnt, but tasty.
I’ve often wondered if these loaves are still made, as I believe Wood Mill Bakery must have closed in the war or late 1930s.
