HAVING recently bought and read your very good publication ‘Then and Now’, I was very interested in the section about the construction of the Itchen Bridge.
As I was involved with the building of it, the toll plaza over at the Woolston side where the tolls are collected.
I must correct one of the facts though: you state that Kier Ltd did the building – it was in fact a company called Kier/French. It would have been interesting for the locals to know that a Southampton firm built the toll plaza complex – G E Prince & Sons from Chapel Road. I was in fact in charge of that project.
