IN reply to D Watton (Letters, December 19), who is to blame for the virus on Oriana?
We have had 35 cruises in the last 13 years, all with P&O, 19 of which on Oriana.
Out of these 35 we have had norovirus on nine of the cruises, yet never have we caught it. We go into a strict hygiene code, we never use communal toilets, only our cabin, we never touch handrails in corridors, stairs or lifts and we only use our knuckles when calling for a lift, never fingertips.
When we go to the library and see a book which we want we use our baby wipes to go over the book before we bring it out, also in the cyber cafe we wipe all keys with our baby wipes before using.
We believe using these small details keeps us safe.
All ships go out clean and in 24-48 hours after getting on board the first person goes down with the bug, that is the person who has carried it on board. It is a well known fact with all the cruise lines and hotels and hospitals, the first person is the carrier, after the first case the strict hygiene we use should be normal for everyone, but people don’t listen. The same thing has happened with QM2. She left New York and in 24 hours someone went down with the bug.
It’s happening on Fred Olsen, Saga, Royal Caribbean Celebrity, even the six-star cruise lines have occasional problems which the passengers are causing by not being truthful when they board the ship.
