FOR several years local cyclists have been contacting Southampton Cycling Campaign about the lack of secure cycle stands at a number of supermarkets in the city.
The most frequently cited were the Tesco stores in Lodge Road and on the Woodman site and the Co-op stores in Burgess Road and at Foyes Corner (formerly Shirley Road).
The campaign decided to take up the issue with the chief executives of both Tesco and Co-op.
The responses were positive and, with the exception of the Burgess Road Co-op, these stores now have safe, secure cycle parking.
We would like to thank both Co-op and Tesco for their prompt action on behalf of cyclists.
LINDSI BLUEMEL, Secretary, Southampton Cycling Campaign.
