ONE does begin to wonder when Government is able to declare a “Bonfire of the Quangos” and then not only fail to implement the policy but proceeds to produce a quango for the National Health Service, which appears to cost more to establish and run, that it can ever achieve in savings.

This they present as joined-up and rational thinking.

They also bring in police commissioners with accompanying entourage, and in the main retain that which existed but under a different name which costs far more than the previous system because of increased salaries, more deputies; high redundancy/pension provisions; more bureaucracy and all costs to be paid for from the police budget.

Joined-up thinking seems to have been quietly forgotten in the rush to do something to show we mean business!
