I SOMETIMES wonder how some people, so apparently lacking in common sense, get placed in positions of authority.

I will give you a classic example. I live on the Waterside and our refuse collection of sacks including recyclables is on a Wednesday and items are placed on the verges for collection.

On the very same day the grass cutters appear during the summer months and mow neatly around all the sacks awaiting collection, thus leaving circles of uncut verge.

Last Wednesday the road sweeper appeared and since some of the sacks have overflowed onto the road, he of course sweeps around them.

Is it beyond the comprehension of those responsible for co-ordinating these works within our council to get together or use a telephone to try to avoid such clashes?

I have brought this matter up with my district councillor, who agreed that the situation was barmy, however appears to have done little about it.
