IF, as your poll suggests, over 90 per cent of Saints’ fans are unhappy with the decision to sack Nigel Adkins, then is it not incumbent upon them to do something about it?

But where was the response in the match against Everton?

Hardly to be found; little more than a spineless acceptance of the situation.

After their show of appreciation at half-time for Nigel Adkins, why was there then not a mass walk-out, something which the occasion was crying out for.

Your correspondents exhort us to keep supporting the team, maintaining that the club is more important than the manager.

This is true, but the fans are more important than the club and if a cynical and ambitious Chairman is riding roughshod over the fans’ feelings, then why should they give the club their support?

I suspect most fans will disagree with me, but I have never subscribed to the nostrum “My country (club in the case), right or wrong.”

If something is wrong, it does not deserve our support. Nicola Cortese has treated Nigel Adkins appallingly and should not get away with it.

I would prefer to see Saints playing in the Championship with heads held high than floundering in the lower reaches of the Premier League under the leadership of a man who lacks all common decency or ability to do the right thing.
