REGARDING Glen Lee care home, I was very surprised to read the negative report, as it is a local authority home.
My own mother is in a local authority residential home, Holcroft House, and we are very pleased with the care and the cleanliness the home gives. Private homes are very much less caring and often not as clean as the local authority ones.
We have had experience of this, plus prior to retirement, it was part of my job to visit many homes and help families with the process of moving their relatives, who were often elderly and vulnerable.
I can believe there is a staff shortage, and I can’t imagine that with the current cutbacks this will get any better, and they probably rely on the goodwill of the carers in the homes to work harder, therefore denying residents of the care they are entitled to.
It always seems to be these groups which are ‘picked on’ when it comes to cuts. We have all been children, teens, had families etc, but until we reach it ourselves, no one but the elderly know what it is like to be old, and as I’m beginning to learn, the older I become, I feel strongly that it is nothing to look forward to.
I am though really pleased to read that the problems are now resolved and quickly, but does that include adequate staffing numbers?
