THE Labour government is proposing that the school leaving age be increased to 18.

This will obviously help the unemployment figures tremendously, as has paying children to remain in education.

The other factor which will doubtless be affected is school places.

If this initiative is adopted will our Lib-Lab council be reviewing yet again education in our city and the proposed school closures?

With the current influx of EU residents plus, those due on the next wave, along with compulsory education until 18, how can we be sure that closing down schools is necessary?
