AS we have recently remembered the bravery and courage of our servicemen and women, let's also remember the many animals who helped save so many lives in the conflicts of war.
They played a vital part in the first and second world war and should not be forgotten.
Many of the animals to receive a Dicken Medal - the Animal's VC, include three horses, 18 dogs, one cat and 31 carrier pigeons, for their acts of bravery.
Their moving and touching stories are included in a book entitled Silent Heroes.
