I find myself at a complete loss as to why this debate is even going on at this stage of the game!
How can peoples' ability to have cheap holidays in the sun possibly be more important than the future of our civilisation itself? The current rate of carbon emmision, of which air travel is a large contributor, already disrupts our climate. This fact is no longer even in dispute. We have seen examples of the results of climate change over the last few years - does two weeks on a beach in Spain warrant this level of irresponsible disregard for our future? I can't see how.
Here's a thought - why not expand the open spaces and community facilities in our cities instead, making them pleasant and happy places in which to spend our lives. Then maybe people wouldn't feel the need to "escape" all the time!
