We are possibly less than a decade away from a climate change tipping point, beyond which the whole world is in danger of irreversible and progressively worsening damage.
This is the greatest danger to all of us, far, far greater than the threat of terrorism.
Air transport is the fastest growing contributor to global warming gases and if it continues will undo all of the reduction of emissions that are forecast to take place elsewhere in the economy.
Clearly this is entirely unsustainable and even our present profoundly anti-environmental government, if it remains in office, or any replacement government, will have to do something about it very soon.
The idea that we should be expanding airports anywhere at this time is simply ludicrous.
Southampton Airport, if it has to have a Master Plan' at all, should be planning a steady reduction of its activities and making its current use more acceptable to the population in its vicinity.
It is time the airline industry was made to pay the true costs of its activity.
