I'M writing about Radio Solent and the moves that are going on there.

Personally I have enjoyed Richard Cartridge, Nick Girdler, etc.

Working full time, Saturdays was a particular joy with the sports programme, being a lifelong Saints fan I loved the phone-in with Alan ball and Dave Merrington, people with great knowledge of the game whose views you could respect, and learn from. The commentary on the actual game over the 90 minutes was good, you knew what was happening. Not any more, now the game can be being played and we don't know what's happening, we have chit-chat about other matches, competitions, other scores, mentions of other programmes even, I don't expect no fun, or no mention of other things, but the way this programme has gone my son and I now listen to Saints Radio for the matches, a pity because we really enjoyed Dave's comments, but what's the use of a local radio broadcast of your local team's game if you're not hearing at least or so it seems s third of that game. I appears the commentators have fallen into the trap of thinking that they're what we tune in for.

Wrong, people who can't get to the matches for one reason or another, usually health or not being able to afford the tickets, just want to be able to hear the game, hear about their team and not be spoken over the air to like children.

When the phone-in was on the air with Alan and Dave, people could at least put their views over and get good constructive replies, we all felt a part of things, now, not all, but some people don't.

On a personal level I feel Radio Solent has let myself, my son, and a few local friends down, we think they've lost the plot.

Thank God for Saints Radio and Jimmy Case, a man who gives it to you straight, and you know what, you know what's happening on the pitch again.

Thanks for letting me sound off.

B LOWE, Brockenhurst.
