IN my opinion the demise of Radio Solent began two years ago when the popular Topsoil programme was revamped, and turned into a "music" and general information programme with gardening slots.

I wrote then to the management, suggesting that they were making a mistake, and likely to lose listeners. They did.

Now, that revamped programme has been axed, and with it a multitude of experienced gardeners.

To then axe the longest serving members of the station, all popular in their own fields, and with a wealth of knowledge, and to replace them with giggling insipid presenters with not a lot of personality or life experiences, was sheer folly.

I think Mia Costello has shot Radio Solent in the foot.
