AS an elderly listener to Radio Solent I wish to object to their unkind policy of ditching some of the very best broadcasters. I agree with Age Concern Hampshire director, who has commented that this action is "clearly ageist."
I have very much enjoyed listening to Peter White, Dennis Skillicorn, and Pippa Greenwood. They really do have something to say which makes their programmes so interesting. As for the idea of allowing only callers in the 45-64 range to put their views over the radio I consider this very short-sighted. Elderly people have had a lifetime of experience and help you keep a decent level in the programmes. It is to be hoped that Radio Solent will not lower the standard of their broadcasts, or they will lose many of their listeners rather than gaining new ones.
Peter White is a wonderful inspiration to everyone, especially those with disabilities. He is the kind of broadcaster whom Radio Solent should be encouraging.
I have just heard that Richard Cartridge will be going soon,. What is happening to BBC?
