I WAS really shocked to hear we have lost good experienced broadcasters, whom I have listened to for a long time: Peter White, Richard Cartridge, Pippa Greenwood and Chris Walker.
Experience and interesting people cannot be replaced overnight.
Radio Solent's old gardening programme with Sarah Watts and the experienced gardener (Brian Kidd & Co) was the best of gardening programmes until they changed the format and put on pop records every few minutes, as the managing editor of Radio Solent wants to pick and choose who listens to their station and prefers not to have listeners over 65.
Mia Costello may just as well ask us to switch over to Radio One. Perhaps one day she may get to over 65.
If Sally Taylor wishes to be just a disc jockey on Saturday mornings that is up to her.
A trained chimpanzee can put pop records on all day. This is not the way to win Radio Awards. I thought the BBC was for all ages. I think it is a bit late to do a U-turn now.
Peter White was a remarkable man and I am sure many listeners will agree.
