I WAS disappointed to read the partisan, party line taken by Labour councillor David Furnell concerning the sulphur plant application for the Western Docks.
I attended the recent planning meeting and spoke against the application along with Freemantle councillor Jeremy Moulton, and we urged the councillors on the planning and rights of way panel to reject it.
What Cllr Furnell omitted to say was that he did not object to the original application, nor did he bother to attend the planning meeting and speak against it. All four Labour councillors on the planning panel voted in favour of the sulphur plant, with one saying it was just a small application and another praising the Sulphur Plant applicant, Oxbow. I was very pleased however that Cllr Linda Norris, a former Conservative councillor for Millbrook, spoke vehemently against the sulphur plant and voted to reject it.
STEVEN GALTON, Conservative candidate for Millbrook Ward, Southampton.
