ON Friday, May 31 my friends and I were sat in the sun in Shirley Precinct when we were approached by someone canvassing for the Labour Party.
We were not happy with this as we had just been told our lifeline, the S2 bus is to be axed on June 26.
This bus runs from Shirley Precinct through to Regents Park, then to Bedford Place where there is a big block of flats being built for over-50s, then to the City Centre. It is a circular journey.
I am fed up with people complaining about pensioners’ ‘perks’. I grew up in the 1930s during the slump and through the war.
There was no NHS or social security or places we could to go for bags of food as there is now.
Also I brought my three children up on a widowed mother’s allowance. I knew what hardship was in the 1960s.
Is it too much to ask for a bus to take us to do our shopping and get out of the house?
