MAY I take this opportunity to respond to D R Smith’s misinformed article (In my view June 4)?
His description of UKIP was entirely unrecognisable. If, as he states, UKIP make the Conservative party appear left wing, then why have so many hundreds of Tories deserted their party and joined us?
Together with the UK’s biggest party political donor Stuart Wheeler, who now humbles himself as our treasurer, having previously donated £5 million to the Tory party.
Why is it that those who join us from other parties speak of the freedom that they enjoy to actually enact the wishes of those they represent?
Why is our party leader the only one to go “viral”on You Tube? Why is it that whilst membership of all other parties is in decline, our membership has increased exponentially?
Why, Mr Smith, do you misquote the report from the National Institute of Economic Research when its author Martin Weale has already criticised Nick Clegg for his misuse of this report?
What Mr Weale actually said was “three million jobs depend on exports to Europe but not upon membership of the EU”. Outside of this tyrannical regime these jobs would still exist.
Similarly the often repeated scare tactics from Europhiles regarding loss of trade are groundless and of course the EU’s share of world GDP continues its 20-year downward spiral.
For too long the parties who have been elected to Westminster have been happy to cede power to the EU. Clearly these parties do not wish to have a UK Parliament so why do they stand? The voting public have seen through this and are voting accordingly.
CHRIS MARTIN, Netley Abbey.
