FIRST Bus, in their infinite wisdom, have axed all buses to Lordshill North.
Do they not think of people who need to be able to get out?
I am disabled and to walk to the next nearest stop (currently over the road from me) takes 20 minutes.
I will have to do this twice a day just to get to and from work.
Many people on this route are elderly who no longer drive. They can’t get out without a bus. How do they get their shopping and go to hospital and doctor’s appointments without a bus?
I am lucky, I do my shopping online, but many elderly people don’t have computers.
I am due to have knee surgery shortly and, without the bus, I won’t be able to get out at all because I won’t be able to walk that far.
I will have to get taxis just to get to my physio appointments.
Every time First cuts the bus services fewer people seem to use them because of the lack of service so then they get cut again because of the lack of passengers.
I am a pensioner but buy an annual bus pass as I have to pay to go to work because I start before the concessionary passes are used.
A lot of elderly passengers say that they would be willing to make some sort of contribution just to keep a bus service. I know that this is a business, but without passengers they wouldn’t have a business and they are doing nothing to keep the passengers they have.
Not everyone has a car or is mobile enough to walk any distance. This axing of the service is going to make many elderly people housebound. Hardly fair.
