OH dear, my letter regarding the Tories’ inaction and blunders regarding the application by Oxbow for a sulphur plant, pictured above, in the docks seems to have struck a nerve.
The Tory candidate in Millbrook says I didn’t object to the original application and in this he is right. I was not informed about the application in 2011 either by the three Freemantle councillors or by anyone in the Tory administration.
The three Freemantle ward councillors were informed but were either asleep, did not notice the application or did not deem it important.
The leader of the Tory group Royston Smith seemed to know something as he remembers “Something at the back of my mind”. Unfortunately for my constituents the Tories decided not to put it at the front of their minds. For the Tories to now object to the sulphur plant is 18 months too late. It was very difficult if not impossible for the city council to stop the application due to the mistakes of the previous administration.
Maybe the Tory candidate in Millbrook should be talking to his colleagues, asking them what happened rather than attacking me.
CLLR DAVID FURNELL, Labour councillor, Millbrook ward.
