NOW we have a new cabinet member for Health and Adult Social Care in Southampton, will Councillor Dave Shields reverse the Labour Council hikes in charges to the frail, elderly and disabled?
These care charges will leave some elderly people paying up to £12,000 pa more out of their savings – money that they have worked hard to save for their retirement.
Many of these people will have been struck down with a stroke or may be suffering from dementia; things they have no control over.
Many have lost their dignity, self-respect and independence and now, because of Labour, their savings.
This is a group of people that needs help and support from everyone and these huge hikes in care charges now are leaving them more vulnerable. Cllr Shields has a chance to do what’s right for these people, so let us see what sort of cabinet member he is.
