I READ with amazement the letter published on June 6 regarding the no.9 bus service through the Kings Ride Estate.
I am not surprised that the writer of this letter wished to hide under a cloud of anonymity. The letter states that ‘there has even been damage to cars owned by residents against the buses, caused by pro-bus people’.
Where is the evidence for this? If gangs of elderly people are rampaging around the estate smashing up cars, why haven’t the police done something about it? Perhaps the anonymous person would care to enlighten us. I personally have not seen any damaged cars around here neither have I seen any of my friends, who were pleased to have a bus service running through the estate, wielding dangerous implements and attacking vehicles.
To make such an accusation is a serious matter and I wish to state that those who were in favour of having a bus service on the Kings Ride Estate neither initiated nor associate themselves with such vandalism.
The anonymous person asks how we managed without buses 30 years ago. I assume they have never obtained a GCSE qualification in maths otherwise they would realise that we were all about 40 or 50 years old then and were young enough to walk long distances. Naturally this person will never grow old and frail and wish for a bus passing their door.
Finally I would like to inform your readers that at no time have the residents of Fawley been deprived of a bus service. In November, the no.8 bus started a service to Fawley and Calshot as the no.9 bus no longer went there.
FELICITY BEARD, Kings Ride, Langley.
