I HAVE read with interest the recent plans to redevelop the old boating lake site at Southampton Sports Centre.

I am surprised that no one has suggested building a new Southampton ice rink there!

Simply fill the boating lake with water, freeze it, plonk a cheap warehouse-like structure over it and Bob’s your uncle – instant ice rink!

The fact that the ice rink would be adjacent to the Southampton Ski Slope means the whole area could be developed as a Winter Sports Centre and Alpine resort!

Surely some budding entrepreneur in Southampton with a little money and imagination could make a success of this?

For a long time Southampton has been looking for a new site for an ice rink. This could be it!
