IN reply to Bev Wood’s reference to the price of glasses with varifocal lenses (Letters, June 10), I have always attended my local optician for my varifocals.
Several years ago my friends said that I paid too much and should go to Specsavers as they did. I dutifully went along and purchased glasses. Yes they were quite a lot cheaper BUT when I went along to collect them I could not read with them. They heated the arms and tried again and again to adjust them so that I could read the text they offered me.
Finally the manager asked if he could ring my current opticians who informed him that the lenses they used were of top German quality. He then asked me if I had been told that their lenses were a cheaper variety. Of course I hadn’t. He then agreed to remake my glasses with the correct lens at no cost to me.
Needless to say when I next needed my glasses renewed I returned to my local optician.
I hope this answers the question as to the difference in prices on varifocal lenses.
After all you get what you pay for.
MRS BARBARA RYLIS, Southampton.
