The group Truly Scrumptious, on Facebook has taken Salisbury and the surrounding areas by storm! It was set up by Carol Kite and her daughter to help parents in the area to provide second hand children’s items to others in the area once they were no longer of any use.
The group has been running for just over a year now and currently has 2,472 members, which is increasing daily.
Not only does this group provide items for sale, it also provides a fantastic and valuable support network for all parents who use it and all of the members are always willing to rally round to provide support, whether it be by donations of items, their time to listen (always valuable to a parent) or any advice on experiences they may have had or suggestions of where information can be found.
The members of the group come from all walks of life and some have children who have required hospital care for one reason or another, whether it be through premature birthing or something else.
It has been brought to the members’ attention that a children’s ward in Southampton Hospital has only one pushchair for parents to use within this ward, along with minimal everyday supplies for parents and their children.
This sparked immediate responses from members who have been donating items and money in order to provide a pushchair or two for the ward, along with other essential items useful for babies and children whilst they are in the care of the hospital.
The overwhelming response that members provide to causes such as this is immense and the generosity is plain to see. It may only seem to some a small thing to be doing, but to those who use the services of hospitals and other charities who offer support to parents with premature babies, children with disabilities and the like, the small things are those that really matter, and to know that there is a group of people willing to donate their items, money and time in aid of such causes makes all the difference.
A cake sale was recently held by the members for the charity BLISS, which provides support and care for premature babies and their families. Members were asked to bake cakes and post their pictures on line to receive offers of donations for the goodies. The sale was a massive success and £300 was donated. Fantastic effort ladies!
