Ken Wellstood’s perceptive letter about of Eastleigh Council leader Keith House’s financial mathematics over the use of public money in the Ageas Bowl complex highlighted my own views of the smoke and mirrors that has been Eastleigh Council’s approach throughout this controversial scheme. A huge sum of Eastleigh tax payers’ money is at risk with extremely questionable returns.
Indeed it is time we had some transparency and honesty from Keith House.
Rumour is circulating over the other white elephant of the new council offices in Upper Market Street. Is it correct that the work is now edging towards £9 million from the original £3.8 million and the budget is continually being reset?
Is there any basis that Eastleigh Borough Council is negotiating with a major supermarket chain to build on the old council office site in Leigh Road where a portion of Fleming Park would be sacrificed and this to offset the growing costs of the new offices?
Is there any truth that part of Fleming Park in Knightingale Avenue, where the fun fair visits, is also being considered for development.
I hope I’m wrong on these issues but it would be nice, and certainly a first, for Keith House to come out of the shadows and start giving some answers.
Richard May, Eastleigh
